What is Detoxification?
Detoxification is the first step of recovery, when the body flushes out the toxic substances that caused addiction. The process begins when you stop using drugs and alcohol—and continue resisting the urge. Detox is a vulnerable period, the first hours and days when your body rids itself of toxic substances so it can prepare to heal. It’s an incredibly challenging time for many people who go through our alcohol rehab program. There are cravings, body aches, irritability, insomnia, nausea and other physical side effects. You should not go through this alone. Detoxification is most successful under the supervision of medical staff and counselors who can oversee the process and provide whatever comfort is possible.
Withdrawal symptoms vary depending on the person, the drug and the lifestyle. Some will experience very few physical withdrawal symptoms, aside from cravings and irritability. Many others will suffer severe physical reactions to detox and risk of medical complications if there are existing health issues.
The greatest risk of detox is relapse. Because the physical symptoms can feel unbearable when a person is going through detox alone, there is a high chance of relapse and overdose. Turning to the drug seems the easiest way to calm the symptoms, to feel “normal” again. The problem is, relapse can be deadly. During treatment, tolerance to drugs and alcohol decrease quickly. If a person uses the same amount they were prior to attending our Florida detox clinic (or more), they can overdose.
Detox can be a painful process, physically and emotionally. We understand this, and some of our counselors have been in the place where you are today. We focus on creating a comfortable, private environment where you can go through the process and focus on recovery. Our luxury detoxification rehab facility is a resort-like setting in Boynton Beach, Florida.

When the physical symptoms are so severe that a person is at risk for a medical concern or needs additional support, there are some medications that can ease the withdrawal side effects. Beachway’s medical staff is on call 24/7 to ensure a safe, successful detox and can prescribe medications if necessary. For example, those who are detoxing from heroine or opiates might benefit from buprenorphine and methadone to curb cravings, minimize side effects and reduce the likelihood of relapse. We can’t stress enough the importance of supervised treatment at a qualified, experience rehab center. Detox is the gateway to recovery—or the reason for relapse when the process is not carefully overseen in a safe, comfortable environment staffed with experienced professionals. At Beachway, our focus is your recovery, and the first step is a safe detoxification.
Before a person begins treatment, Beachway conducts a thoughtful evaluation that includes addressing your current physical and mental health. This way, our medical and therapy staff can prescribe medications, if necessary, and begin creating an individualized, long-term recovery plan.

Drug Detox Program
The opioid epidemic is being called the worst drug crisis in America, with drug overdose deaths the leading cause of injury. Opioids cause more deaths than car accidents in the United States.
Beachway has successfully treated thousands of individuals suffering from opioid addiction, potentially saving them from serious injury or even death. That’s because we do more than simply detox to get the drugs out of the system. We provide the medical support to get clean safely, the therapy to address triggers and the root cause of addiction, and give you the tools to live a sober, happy life.
Break Free From Drug Addiction—Detox is the First Step
Drug detoxification does not treat drug dependence, but it is the first step toward recovery. Beachway has successfully treated individuals suffering from addiction to substances including:
- Opium and opiates
- Prescription medications
