In an SFBT session, a therapist will ask questions rather than suggesting answers. The therapist will also reinforce positive qualities, strengths and the individual’s ability to solve problems. It’s about empowering a person to solve their issues since they are aware of the problem, and they are aware of the exceptions—when the problem is not a problem. The therapist will identify positive behaviors the client already owns, and to identify new ways of solving problems. Ultimately, an action plan is developed based on the individual’s situation.
