Beachway Therapy Center is proud to have on staff some of the most knowledgeable and experienced addiction treatment professionals. Our team of multidisciplinary treatment care providers has many years of addiction treatment experience and education. Clinical & Medical Staff

Dr. Duy Nguyen, Medical Director (D.O.)

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kansas; Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences; completed general psychiatry training in South Florida at the Palm Beach Consortium for Graduate Medical Education at University Hospital in Tamarac, FL

Medical Credentials: D.O Board-Certified Psychiatrist in General Psychiatry 

Professional Bio: Dr. Duy Nguyen has experience providing psychiatric care in a variety of settings, including residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation, inpatient and outpatient mental health, and the VA Medical Center. Dr. Nguyen is committed to providing a high level of evidence-based psychiatric care in drug rehabilitation settings with a holistic focus on healing and recovery.

Kimra Shaw, Director of Nursing (RN BSN)

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Chamberlain College of Nursing

Medical Credentials: 17 years of experience as an LPN

Professional Bio: Although Kimra A. M. Shaw is native to St. Thomas, Virginia, South Florida is where she calls home. Kimra’s experience and professionalism are expressed by her commitment to maintaining the highest possible patient care standards. Her love and devotion to helping others is seen in her more than 15 years of experience as a nurse and director of nursing.

Kimra leads by example with passion and conviction. With her education, professional experience, and knowledge of recovery, Kimra has a unique ability to connect with every patient she encounters. Every day she strives to touch someone’s life in an effort to enrich their experience and help them heal and recover. Kimra, along with her trained team, takes the time to get to know their patients, understand their needs, and celebrate their life as they go through their journey of recovery.


Heather Baker-Carr, LMHC Staff

Heather Baker-Carr, Program Director (MS, LMHC)

Education: Bachelor of Science from Cornell University; Master of Science from Lynn University, with an emphasis on clinical and counseling psychology

Medical Credentials: Administrator of Clinical and Medical Operations at Beachway; licensed mental health counselor. 

Professional Bio: Heather specializes in treating trauma, addiction, and severe mental health, and works to create environments that support healing. Heather is experienced as a clinician, administrator, and trainer overseeing substance abuse and mental health facilities at all levels of care. She is inspired by helping individuals create meaningful lives through a greater understanding of themselves and the family system.

Carrie Carlton, Clinical Director (LCSW)

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University; Master of Social Work from Barry University (Miami)

Medical Credentials: Clinical Director at Beachway; Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Professional Bio: Carrie has worked for Beachway since 2014. Her understanding of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and family systems guide her treatment of individuals struggling with addiction. Her patients thrive under her guidance due to her level of honesty, empathy, and compassion. Carrie recognizes the severe impact of addiction on both the family and the patient. She believes that underlying emotional and cognitive core issues must be treated alongside addiction to effectively treat the patient. She believes that if these underlying issues are not addressed or explored in treatment, the patient remains at a higher risk of relapse.

Dina Sagarese-Coleman

Dina Sagarese-Coleman, Family Therapist (LMFT)

Education: Masters Degree of Science from Nova South Eastern University; Master of Social Work

Professional BioDina is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Florida with over 20 years of experience that she brings to Beachway Therapy Center as the Family Therapist. Dina holds a Bachelors Degree from St. Joseph’s College in New York specializing in Early Education and a Masters Degree of Science from Nova South Eastern University; Marriage and Family Therapy. Upon graduating from St. Joseph’s college Dina relocated to South Florida.  During her years as the owner of the Davie Play School Dina decided to obtain a Master’s Degree. This would enable her to transition her knowledge of human development/teaching into the field of therapy with a concentration in family systems, children/adolescents, and drug/ alcohol addiction.  She has provided therapy in a range of different treatment settings over the past 18 years. Dina took a leap of faith and decided to once again be the leader in her own company and opened Breathe DSC LLC in 2016. Through Breathe DSC LLC she has been contracted to teach as an Adjunct Professor at Nova South Eastern University, teaching a course to all incoming freshmen called GPS for Life. In addition, her contract work has led her to assist those in the field of addiction, along with a thriving private practice. Dina’s passion is to reach groups of people through experiential practices and motivational speaking. Dina’s expertise, compassion, and dedication to making a difference in the lives of others have been an ongoing vision and passion. When Dina is not working she loves to spend time with her family; especially her nieces and nephews. She finds peace and serenity at the ocean side and traveling the world is on her bucket list.

Therapist Deborah McNamara, MSW

Deborah McNamara, Therapist (MSW)

Education: Master of Social Work; Member of The Transformation and Rebirth Institute of Ft. Lauderdale

Professional Bio: Deborah has more than 20 years of experience as an addiction professional. For over 10 years, she has studied the true nature of being as a member of The Transformation and Rebirth Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, where she studied esoteric and metaphysics regarding the fundamental principles of enlightenment, self-healing, and recovery. She has witnessed the effects addiction can have on individuals and families. She has a passion for seeing eye to eye with those who are struggling and helping families understand the true nature of addiction. Deborah understands how important it is to feel safe and respected in addiction treatment. As a counselor, she helps patients identify treatment goals, understand the nature of addiction, and comprehend the basic principles of the recovery process.

ElizabethMcCann, Primary Therapist

Elizabeth McCann, Primary Therapist (LMHC)

Elizabeth is a Primary Therapist at Beachway. She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Miami and an MS in Counseling Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for the state of Florida. With several years of experience, Elizabeth is passionate about working with individuals with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, with an ability to provide individualized care to those she works with. Elizabeth uses evidenced-based approaches when treating individuals, including CBT, DBT, REBT, and Motivational Interviewing. Elizabeth is a strong believer in addressing underlying core issues to promote healing for those she works with, while building self-love, acceptance, and positive thinking to nurture a secure recovery foundation.

Brian McSwain, Primary Therapist

Brian McSwain, Primary Therapist (MA) & LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor)

Professional Bio: Brian brings clients extensive experience in cognitive behavioral therapy and treating mental health problems. Brian is deeply compassionate to the needs of those struggling with addiction, and guides his clients through a process of action, self-awareness, and accountability through the twelve-step program to a point of life-long sobriety. Brian also understands the impact of addiction on family members, and works with the entire family to achieve sobriety and prevent relapse.

Will Shlifer, Trauma Counselor (LCSW,CAP)

Education: Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland; Master of Social Work at Barry University 

Medical Credentials: Licensed Clinical Social Worker; Certified Addiction Professional

Professional Bio: Drawing from over a decade of experience in substance abuse treatment and behavioral health, Will offers a variety of services to help individuals with addiction issues, unresolved trauma, and mental health diagnosis. They include group counseling, individual counseling, and specialized trauma services. He integrates several different evidence-based therapeutic modalities to suit the needs of each individual, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, therapeutic confrontation, existential work, psychodrama, and inner child work. Will specializes in treating addiction and substance abuse with co-occurring depression, anxiety, and mood disorders.

Will has worked for several substance abuse treatment centers in the South Florida area, serving as a clinical director for multiple programs. In the past 2 years, Will has been mentored and certified for trauma counseling by Judy Crane and the Spirit to Spirit team of the most gifted, professionally informed, and knowledgeable therapists in the field of unresolved trauma and PTSD. Through his work in substance abuse and behavioral health, Will understands that to truly move forward, an individual must free themselves from the past.

Laura Ward, Primary Therapist (LMHC)

Education: Masters of Social Work 

Medical Credentials: Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified EMDR Therapist

Professional BioLaura has worked in the field of addiction since 2000. Her education in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology has prepared her to work with complex addiction cases.  Laura is a licensed mental health counselor, certified addictions professional and EMDR trained.  Her expertise is in helping clients who struggle not only with substances, but also anxiety, depression, and trauma issues.  Laura works with a client-centered approach meeting people where they are and healing from that point.  She understands that addiction is a family disease and provides families with support and understanding.

Rima Treynker, Admissions Director

Education: Bachelor of Arts at Florida Atlantic University

Medical Credentials: Admissions Director at Beachway

Professional Bio: Rima focuses on helping patients and their loved ones navigate through their journey, to find happiness, peace, and success. She takes pride in herself, her work, and the work of Beachway’s admissions team. As Admissions Director, she leads Beachway’s admission team in their ability to guide, support, and offer empathy to all individuals seeking help and recovery. Born in Russia and raised in Chicago, Rima found her home in South Florida. Her background has given her the ability to relate to people of all backgrounds and diversities. Her goal is to help spread awareness, eliminate stigma, and normalize the tough conversations surrounding substance/alcohol abuse, trauma, mental health, and eating disorders. Rima has been with Beachway since 2010 as a dedicated and motivated team member. In her free time, Rima loves to travel, spend time with family and friends, and practice meditation through yoga.

Mark Fanali Client Care Director

Medical Credentials: Certified Recovery Support Specialist; Client Care Director

Professional Bio: Mark is a certified interventionist, certified life & recovery coach, and trained sober companion. Mark began working at Beachway in 2010, helping clients achieve long-term sobriety. He is an active member of the local recovery community and draws from his personal addiction recovery experience to empower his clients and show that recovery is possible. Mark uses a variety of different therapeutic techniques as well as a compassionate, client-centered approach to help his clients find serenity and happiness in their own journey and the 12 steps. Mark is currently working toward becoming a certified addiction counselor in addition to being a licensed interventionist. Mark loves spending time with his family and enjoys golfing, traveling, and live music.

Sean Stiles, patient care

Sean Stiles, Alumni Coordinator & Client Services Coordinator

Medical Credentials: Alumni Coordinator & Client Services Coordinator 

Professional Bio: Originally from Kentucky, Sean began his relationship with Beachway in 2016 when he was admitted as a patient. As an individual in recovery he can empathize with what’s going on with clients and alumni daily. His journey has led him back to the place where it all got started, and he is eager to connect with everyone. Building human connections and expanding alumni services is his main goal. 

Alumni services are an integral part of aftercare for individuals in recovery, whether they deal with addiction or mental health disorders. When clients leave Beachway, they have a network of peers they can draw on for support and feedback as well as a direct link to the therapist they worked closely with throughout their journey of recovery.

Denis Holmes, Chief Executive Officer

Position: Chief Executive Officer at Beachway

Professional Bio: Denis brings years of knowledge, understanding, and experience to meet the needs of patients at Beachway with a personal motto of “if you put recovery first, anything is possible.” He willingly goes to any lengths to assist individuals that suffer from substance abuse while understanding the impact that addiction can have on the entire family. Denis has a special understanding of the aftercare treatment clients require to maintain sobriety. He is involved with day-to-day operations at Beachway so that patients’ needs are met at the highest levels possible. Within the community, Denis has a high level of credibility because of his unwavering commitment to high clinical standards and ethics.

Pamela Egan, Chief Operating Officer

Position: Chief Operating Officer at Beachway

Professional Bio: Pamela brings more than 10 years of invaluable experience founding and running new businesses to Beachway. Pamela’s business expertise has been instrumental in building Beachway to the outstanding facility that it is today. She works tirelessly to create a safe and comfortable residential experience to support the recovery of Beachway’s patients.  Understanding first-hand what impact addiction can have on peoples’ lives, Pamela is dedicated to Beachway’s mission of offering excellent clinical care to those seeking recovery. She enjoys getting to know each patient and making sure Beachway is not only meeting but exceeding expectations.

Michelle Axton, client care coordinator

Michele Axton, Residential Services Coordinator

Position: Residential Services Coordinator

Professional Bio: Michele began working at Beachway in 2015 and has been professionally working in the recovery field for more than 15 years. Her responsibilities include the overall supervision of environmental care and assisting with the physical facility in accordance with fire, safety, health department standards, and inspections. She is responsible for preparing each patient’s room prior to arrival and monitors every room daily to ensure patients have necessary supplies and amenities. Additionally, Michele respectfully communicates rights, policies, procedures, and expectations regarding accommodations to patients.

Michele has remained clean and sober for 34 years, which provides her with the ability to understand the needs and expectations of patients when it comes to residing in a safe, clean and positive environment. She believes in the importance of being a role model and leading by example. Michele takes great pride as an employee of Beachway, as evidenced in her daily care and interactions.

Michele Tucker; Operations Manager

Michele joined the team at Beachway in 2015. She comes to Beachway with a variety of administrative and operational skills.  Her background includes working in the non-profit sector for many years.  She has been a part of the recovery community for over 11 years and is dedicated to helping others find a better way of life. Michele’s favorite part of the job is watching patients become who they are meant to be and seeing them come back as Alumni and giving to others. She stated that “the family atmosphere here at Beachway makes it easier for our patients to let down their guard and start the true process of healing one’s mind, body and spirit”.  When not at work, Michele enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and relaxing at her pool.

Position: Executive Chef

Professional Bio: Rocky earned his food service management degree from New England Tech over twenty years ago.  Having spent his life working in a variety of culinary settings he brings a casual, healthy approach to the food that he prepares daily He enjoys working with his team in Beachway’s state of the art kitchen where he creates flavorful, healthy dishes that meet the dietary needs of all our patients.  On the rare occasion that he is not working he enjoys spending time with his family.
