Addiction and mental health disorders often go hand in hand. When up to a third of those with mental health issues also have co-occurring addictions, it’s necessary to ensure that both mental health and addiction are treated in tandem to secure the best results. At Beachway, the first step in treatment programs is to determine whether a patient currently struggles with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders.

Who May Benefit From a Treatment Program?

Anyone struggling with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders can benefit from a treatment program. Common behaviors that indicate treatment may be necessary include:

    • Having intense urges to use a substance, especially regularly
    • Requiring larger amounts of a substance to achieve the same results
    • Failing to meet responsibilities and obligations because of substance use
    • Continuing use of a substance, even after it begins interfering with day-to-day life
    • Engaging in risky activities like driving or stealing while under the influence of a substance
    • Being unable to stop using the substance
    • Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when not using the substance

How Treatment Programs at Beachway Work

At Beachway, every patient is treated with an individualized, personal plan. This ensures their unique needs are addressed and they receive support in achieving their personal goals. Each patient completes a thorough pre-assessment prior to admission that considers their bio, psycho, and social wellness to determine the best treatment plan. This includes:

    • Previous hospitalization history
    • Mental health and diagnosis history
    • History of self-harm
    • Overdose history
    • Suicidal attempt or ideation history
    • Pregnancy status and history
    • Accessibility needs
    • Eating disorder history
    • Any history of medical conditions
    • Medication history
    • Height, weight, and BMI
    • History of trauma
    • Family support
    • Employment status
    • Diet
    • Allergies

During treatment, patients are frequently reevaluated to determine whether their plans continue to work for them. Sometimes, this occurs as frequently as daily to ensure the highest level of support. Patients can work with the same specialist for the duration of their treatment, ensuring progress is evaluated effectively by someone who sees the results as they reveal themselves.

Rehabilitation Programs for Mental Health and Addiction in Florida

Beachway offers numerous treatment programs to meet a variety of needs. At any given time, patients are enrolled in one program.

Typically, someone in long-term programs would start at inpatient and progress down to less and less supervised levels of care. Some remain in outpatient for a year.

There are major differences between the treatment programs Beachway offers. The first distinction would be between mental health and substance abuse. If a patient is seeking treatment for mental health and doesn’t need detox, they would go straight into a residential mental health program for approximately 30 days.

Patients with a substance use disorder typically go into detox for a short observation up to 7 days, depending on their substance use history.

After detox, a patient typically steps down to a residential level of care. From there, they either go to a PHP (partial hospitalization program) or an IOP (intensive outpatient program). IOP can be 3 to 5 times per week. These levels of care are often determined by the patient’s insurance company based on medical or clinical necessity.

Detox isn’t elective but rather a medical decision. Deciding between inpatient and outpatient care is an individual choice, but Beachway may decline someone for outpatient services if their therapist determines that they need inpatient due to factors surrounding their substance use.

Detoxification Programs

Detoxification programs allow individuals to receive supervision and potentially medical management during the withdrawal process as they stop using a substance. Typically, detox is inpatient, but some clinics offer outpatient programs.

Typically, patients undergo a short observation process, but in some cases, a 7-day or longer observation period may be necessary. This is especially true for those who've been using large quantities of a substance like alcohol or multiple substances that have dangerous withdrawal symptoms.

Upon completing the detox process, patients move to the inpatient program.

At Beachway, only inpatient drug and alcohol detox programs are offered. However, patients receive top-notch care from supportive, compassionate professionals.

Inpatient Programs

At Beachway’s inpatient treatment center, each patient receives personalized access to rehab programs, therapy, and holistic wellness programs. The patient resides at a facility, typically under 24-7 supervision. It may last for days or weeks. Afterward, the patient steps down into outpatient care, which may last up to a year.

Beachway has an inpatient substance abuse and mental health program. The inpatient substance abuse program provides constant support from on-site staff and daily sessions and therapies. The inpatient mental health program provides a similar environment centralized on improving mental health, undergoing medical management, and providing healthy coping skills.

Entering an inpatient program can be disruptive but provides the highest levels of support for a mental health or substance abuse disorder. Trust Beachway’s compassionate staff and extensive evidence-based treatment methods for high-quality inpatient care.

Outpatient Programs

Outpatient programs offer a more accessible, flexible treatment process that provides ongoing support without affecting daily responsibilities. Depending on needs, an individual may join the outpatient IOP program, which involves treatment 3-5 times per week, or the outpatient PHP program, which is less intensive while still providing regular support.

Beachway’s outpatient rehab treatments help patients sustain long-term recovery, providing holistic therapies to address a range of issues that could potentially set back progress.

Specialty Programs

At Beachway, several specialized treatment tracks help patients determine the best course of care. These programs offer additional support based on personal beliefs and needs.

Aftercare refers to the supplemental support we offer after someone is discharged from treatment with us.

Faith-based care is sort of an elected track that someone can opt into while they're in our care. This program offers patients the ability to incorporate their own spiritual or religious background into their recovery journeys.

Long-term is a general (nonclinical, nontechnical) term that refers to being in treatment for more than 30 days and sometimes longer than 90.

Beachway’s specialty programs assist patients in achieving long-term sobriety by allowing for a personal touch that addresses their unique needs.

The First Step in the Treatment Process for Addiction

Before substance abuse treatment can begin, it’s important for individuals to undergo a comprehensive evaluation by the clinical team at Beachway. This helps the professionals craft a personalized care plan.

While some of this may feel invasive, it’s important in determining the most effective care plan. Beachway is an expert in dual-diagnosis treatment, allowing for effective concurrent treatment of co-occurring mental health disorders and substance abuse to ensure better outcomes for those with more complex needs.
