PTSD and Trauma Awareness for First Responders
A walk in partnership with Beachway Therapy Center and Stomping Out the Stigma is raising mental health awareness for Palm Beach County first responders.
Greenacres Fire Chief and Beachway Therapy Center Director of Community Relations Tim Roberto recently sat down with WPBF News reporter Yassmine Julmisse to discuss the growing impact of trauma, PTSD, depression, and other mental health challenges facing first responders. Drawing on both his experience in the fire service and his work in behavioral healthcare, Tim highlights the unique emotional toll that firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, and other emergency personnel carry throughout their careers.
During the interview, Tim and Yassmine discuss the importance of reducing the stigma surrounding mental health treatment within the first responder community and why confidentiality is often one of the biggest barriers preventing individuals from seeking help. They also explore the need for specialized treatment programs that understand the culture, pressures, and experiences unique to first responders, allowing them to receive care in an environment where they feel understood and supported.
Tim also shares details about his upcoming awareness walk, an initiative designed to spark conversations about first responder mental health, honor those who have struggled, and encourage those in need to seek help without fear or shame. The interview serves as an important reminder that asking for help is a sign of strength and that increased awareness, education, and access to confidential treatment can save lives.
